The Solihull Approach have added a further course to their suite of Solihull Approach Online offers. Understanding your child with additional needs is an online course for all parents, grandparents and carers of children aged 0-18 years with additional needs. It follows a similar structure to the other online courses, with sections on parents understanding their own feelings as well as their child's, aspects of communication, styles of parenting, self-regulation and anger, the impact of sleep and the core elements of containment, reciprocity and recognising and responding to behaviours.

As with the other courses, there is free access across Scotland and we would encourage practitioners as well as families to log on and register for lifetime access to all six of the online courses. As a reminder, the six courses are:

  • Understanding pregnancy, labour, birth & your baby
  • Understanding your baby
  • Understanding your child (0-19 years)
  • Understanding your child with additional needs
  • Understanding your teenager's brain
  • Understanding your brain: for teenagers only!
