Social Subjects

In Social Subjects, your child will develop their understanding of the world by learning about other people and their values, in different times, places and circumstances. They will develop their understanding of their environment and of how it has been formed.

Over time, their experiences will be broadened using Scottish, British, European and wider contexts for learning. There will be a focus on the historical, social, geographic, economic and political changes that have shaped Scotland.

Your child will learn about human achievements and about how to make sense of changes in society, of conflicts and of environmental issues.

There are opportunities to study Social Subjects in the Senior Phase.  Courses that could be studied include History, Geography and People and Society. Through Social Subjects, your child will develop their thinking skills, the ability to compare and contrast information, and how to analyse sources and sustainable living.

People and Society is the name for the National Qualification at Level 3/4 in Social Subjects. Pupils will investigate a topic that interests them, and they will make comparisons and decisions. In 2019/20 we studied how extreme weather affects the USA and we looked at tourism in Scotland. There is the opportunity for trips, making videos and using technology. Pupils will develop skills that are really useful to employers.

Here are some links for S3 to watch on the iPlayer. These will develop pupils' knowledge of swamps and social issues in USA.
