Fashion and Textiles

Fashion and Textiles

We aim to build on prior learning to provide learners with opportunities to develop and explore textile materials, techniques and/or technology creatively and expressively. We work hard to develop practical skills, good organisational skills, independence, construction techniques and knowledge which support the development and manufacture of fashion and textile items to an appropriate standard of quality. In addition, learners will apply their problem-solving skills, reflective skills and investigation and research skills as well as learn to set up and use equipment and tools safely and correctly. Each unit of work allows our young people the opportunity of personalisation and choice and the right to share their opinions with others.

Broad General Education

Pupils in S1 - 3 will follow short units of work with textiles. All units have been developed to demonstrate breadth and application of skills when working with textiles and align with the Benchmarks, Experiences and Outcomes within Curriculum for Excellence. We also listen to pupil voice in our development of further units of work to ensure engagement and differentiation for all.

Senior Phase

S4, 5 and 6 pupils will follow a course of study comprising of SQA National Qualifications in Fashion and Textile Technology that provide learners with the knowledge and skills required for the mandatory units of Textile Technologies, Fashion/Textile Item Development and Fashion and Textile Choices.
